Timing, Timing

Hi All

Ever heard the expression Location, Location, Location?  I have my own version – it goes Timing, Timing, Timing.  Like Location, it’s essential for success in business.

The last time I started a business was in 1973.  Within a few months we were experiencing the 3 Day Week, the Winter of Discontent and interest rates around 26%.  Whilst we survived, it was very unpleasant.  Timing!

I am now looking to start a new business and we are experiencing the worst recession since the 30’s – some say the end of Capitalism.  Timing!

Now, if it was not for past experience, I may even be demoralised by all of this.  But there is a silver lining.  As things get tougher, organisations will need to work smarter and employee skills will become even more essential.  That is where BACH-Office have an opportunity.  We can provide the edge companies need to survive and grow. Timing!

It makes sense to train – but to do so only for the skills you need, when you need them.  It makes sense to have someone else develop applications when the learning required would delay the development of the application (and the benefits).  It makes sense to have someone skilled develop training materials to ensure the effective use of training time.

Yes, I think our time has come…

Alan

Googled :-)
Just in case nobody has noticed, Bach-Office is now listed by Google.

I guess the time is getting close for us to begin to promote Bach-Office as an active organisation.....

Having been on holiday for the last 2 weeks, I have had time to read white papers, green papers and the materials on various websites.  The overall impression is that the current situation in work based education is set to get worse.  There is much retoric and well-meant intent but no money and an utter inability to put this intent into practice.

In other words, the needs of SME's and experienced adult workers is still being ignored.  NVQ is the only "product" for workplace delivery and is still totally unsuitable for providing IT training.  As a number of writers have pointed out, the certification of existing skills adds NOTHING to the skills base of organisations, and many organisations cannot provide in-house training.  Certainly, the minimalistic funding ensures that only assessment is funded.

Whilst this is bad news for the education / training sector, it offers a real opportunity for BACH.  There's a silver lining in most situations :-)

Blew it :-(
Hi Everyone

Well, I blew it with South Tyneside Means Business.  However, I'm not too upset as it was a bit early for us and the prize was free rental on a premises - something I don't need or want.  Still, some funds would have been nice.

Our focus remains on building site content that will encourage SME's to visit, and hopefully purchase, our services and products.  Currently, Ben is still developing database products; Alison is working on some advanced level teaching materials; Glen has updated his bio information; Alan is trying to develop the site and generate beginner and intermediate user teaching materials.  A few of my sample materials are already on the site, but more are required.  Customers and Members will have access to a much broader range of materials eventually.

I am trying to arrange our first Associate meeting where everyone can meet and get to know each other.  Guess we have a lot to talk about, and we really need to establish our direction and presence.

As usual, I'll keep you all posted as events happen.

Funding Opportunity
Well, Monday should be fun.  I have been invited to make a presentation to South Tyneside Means Business - Biz Idol.  They have a competition and a premises (free for a year), startup advice and some funding may be available.  Although a bit early for us as we are not really at that stage yet, I'm giving it a try.

If I'm lucky, we could see BACH off to a flying start :-)

Keep you all posted.

Alan

Contact at last
Hurray !

Today I made contact with Alison via the Live system and signed her Guest Book.  Alison is preparing some materials to post up as examples of her expertise as a trainer and technical author.  Looking forward to viewing....

Up and running
Hello World  Smile

Well, I finally got this blog working.  It helps when the Microsoft server is working correctly.

Once I am convinced that the system is working reliably, I will start to make entries as often as I can in order to let everyone know where we are up to.

Yesterday I received an email from Alison who kindly made comments and suggestions for the website.  Alison is one of the "victims" I am hoping to involve as a trainer / developer as she has huge experience and many useful skills an SME could use.
